Sixteen artists at the Fredericksburg Art Guild painted a "Community Canvas" to raise funds for the non-profit organization. The final piece was revealed at the guild's "All-Members Art Show" reception on June 21-22, 2008 The painting is based on a photograph of Hill Country wildflowers taken in the local area by Albert Bein, titled
"1-800-Flowers".
The image was divided into sixteen squares and each artist took one square, enlarged it to 12"X"12" and reproduced it on a canvas, in the medium of their choice, using their own style. The canvases were then bolted together to make a final image that is 48"X"48" in size. The artists donating their time and talents to the project are Jan Banfield, Clifton Barr, Ben Beckendorf, Albert Bein, Bonnie Bondurant, Melinda Branan, Beth Hughes, Dottie King, Nancy Glenn Martin, Pam Middleton, Sharon Morris, Peggy Joyce, Kathleen Sautner, Melissa Starry, Minerva Switzer and G.G.Williams.
The money raised will help the guild to fulfill its mission of educating, encouraging, promoting and cultivating the creation of fine arts throughout the Texas Hill Country.
Since June, 2009, this unique artwork has been on display in the Austin Bergstrom International Airport, The Gillespie County Fair, and Fredericksburg's Oktoberfest.
